Build confidence in MSK consultations with this four-week interactive online course for primary care. Learn structured approaches to assessment, diagnosis, and communication across common presentations. Includes live webinars, practical discussion, optional homework, digital resources, and 7 CPD points. Ideal for anyone undertaking MSK consultations in busy clinical settings. 

Aim: Improve primary care consultation skills for MSK presentations.  

Learning objectives: 

  • To demonstrate a positive, confident approach to MSK consultations, informed by the common presentation of MSK conditions in primary care. 
  • To differentiate key elements of MSK history taking, including red flags and psychosocial factors.  
  • To describe key MSK examination techniques and their clinical purpose. 
  • To list the essential elements of an explanation for osteoarthritis and other MSK conditions. 
  • To construct an appropriate MSK management plan. 
  • To select suitable signposting options to support patient self-management.  ​​​​​

 

Meet the speakers

Johan Holte

Consultant Physiotherapist​, NHSE South East and East of England MSK Lead

Johan is a Consultant Physiotherapist and clinical lead for Sutton Health and Care. He is NHSE MSK Lead for the South East and East of England and sits on the executive board for The National Spine Network (NSN). He has a special interest in spinal pain and patient centred care as each patient is individual with specific needs. He has completed an NIHR funded Master’s in research at the University of Brighton. Besides having a clinical role, he also teaches and is involved in various research projects. ​

Wendy Monteith

Lead Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner in Primary Care​, Injection Therapist​, Independent Prescriber

Wendy graduated from Queen Margaret University with a First Class Honours in Physiotherapy in 1998. Since then she has worked continuously within the NHS. During her early career she worked part-time in Sport as physiotherapist for various Scottish football teams.​

Since 2001 Wendy has specialised in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Manual Therapy, and subsequently trained as an injection therapist and non-medical prescriber.​

Since 2015 Wendy has worked as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner in Primary Care and was pioneering in the development of this role in Scotland.
